Vagus Nerve stimulator with MRI

Sun, 07/24/2016 - 20:04
Hello, I have DRE Epilepsy and am on medications. I recently was sent to another specialist, and she wants me to get a 3T MRI. I was told when I got my VNS that I would never have the option of a MRI. She said it we would have the device turned off, proceed with the MRI, and turn it back on. I asked her how that would be possible, since I was told the implant itself was a magnet. Cyberonics is always vague on how the device works, my neurologist told me the device itself is not a magnet, but wasn't able to tell me how the device works..I did 5 yrs of research (including fda maude reports before I got the implant) and am completely confused about the device itself and the MRI issue. I read that the fda approved it, but I'm running on the highest level with only a 15 second reprieve, so I'm completely confused, and quite worried. If anyone can give me any information about this; I'd highly appreciate it! Thanks
