Someone please help me!

OK. I have been having episodes of passing out on and off for 12 years. They have become more frequent. There have been 2 times now where I have not actually passed out, but I start sweating, feel nauseated, and my heart starts racing. During these past 2 episodes, I am aware of my surroundings, and I can hear people talking to me. But I try to respond, and am unable to talk. I get a very "spacy" feeling, almost like I am disconnected from everything. I had 2 EEG's, which were both normal. I have had a tilt-table test, and have a heart monitor implanted. The cardiologist thinks it may be something called "Neurally Mediated Hypotension". But that does not explain the inability to speak. Does anyone out there have any thoughts on this, or has had similar experiences?

That inability to speak

That inability to speak sounds very much like my simple partial seizures. Here is some info: http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_simplepartial.html Despite your having a 'normal' EEG the fact is that not all seizures can be recorded on the EEG. http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/eeg_normal.html Should you wish to check out neurally mediated hypertension her's a link. Note: there is a test you can get to see if that's what you have. But I agree, the inabilty to hear does not appear to jive with that diagnosis. http://www.cfsdoc.org/NMH.htm If I were you I'd not drive until this is taken care of and I'd search out a specialist. best wishes.. ~sol

Thanks for the info. I have had a test for the NMH. Some of my symptoms are consistent, which is why they have implanted a heart monitor in my chest. But the inability to speak, and the "spacy" feeling just does not fit. I see my neuro tomorrow, so we'll see what he thinks now that this has happened more than once.

I have had a few of these and am still in the process of trying to figure out what it is. My nuero has just referred me "upstairs to the Epileptic treatment for them to try and help diagnose". My epsiodes were similar in that I would space out, past pluto, hear people talking to me, not be able to respond. I knew what I wanted to say, my mouth would move like I was trying to speak no words came out. Afterwards I would slurr my speech, be confused, have hard time walking,be tired. Now that I am on my meds they are not as intense. Still very similar though. I am still getting them about 1-2x a week.
