Somatosensory Seizures

Sat, 03/08/2008 - 13:19

Hello there. So, I've recently discovered that the kind of seizure I'm having is called a "somatosensory seizure". I've hardly been able to find any literature or information on it as it seems to be one of the rarer types of seizure. The only good bit I've found is from: http://www.e-epilepsy.org.uk/pages/articles/show_article.cfm?id=88

It's the most accurate description of what I go through when having a seizure.

Is there anyone here who experiences Somatosensory Seizures and is there any reputable information somewhere out there?

I am not sure what your seizure symptoms are but my dd has what I will call seizures that begin by her foot going numb then it will tingle as though it is waking up.

If the numbness gets to far up her leg (calf area) it will cause more jerking type seizure???

She believes she can stop the spread of the numbness by stomping her foot awake.

If the numbness travels up her leg she will have what is more a tonic-clonic (grand-mal) type seizure. She is jerking all over, grunting, breathing difficulties for about 30-40 secs.

sometimes it will just be one side of her body, or just leg or just arm or none at all.

After the seizure she will be very limp unable to walk or sit up without assistance.

She has told us during the seizures that she can hear us but unable to talk.

Does any of this sound like what you are going trough.

We have been 2 1/2 years into the search and no diagnosis from the ped neuro.

We are now in contact with Minnestoa E Center

Yes, that's exactly what I was talking about... yikes this is an old post, I hope you can still check on it. What you're describing sounds EXACTLY what I go through. Why is it so unreasearched?

I do not know how long you
