So confused and dont know what to do!!!!

Tue, 06/13/2006 - 08:57
For the past 8 months, (I am 18 years old), I have been having these shaking attacks. You know, it's so hard to explain though. I begin to get very dizzy and I getthis weird.. almost vibrating sound in my head.. so I have to sit down VERY quickly.. and my arms and legs begin to shake rapidly, everything seems to go black and the whole time i get this weird.. buzzing noise in my head. I FINALLY decided to go to the doctors for it. He sent me for a MRI, Echo Test and also a EEG. I get my EEG results back today and I have the strongest feeling that they are going to come back normal, since my MRI and Echo test did. I am very angry. I want to know w hat the problem is, but I am not getting answers. Whats a family doctor know anyway? They dont specialize in the brain! I know you're thinking, why dont you go see a neurologist for further more in depth testing? I want to, but my doctor had said when i first asked him about it, "I dont know if we want to do that just yet." But in my heart, I truly feel that ther eis something wrong with me. Am i crazy or are they signs of some kind of seizure activity. I got my blood sugar checked. Just in case, maybe thats why it was happening.. but that came back normal. Everything is coming back normal, but why dont I feel normal sometimes? You know? I need your advice. I know you cannot diagnose me. But I dont want to waste my time if it doesnt seem like a seizure problem. The only answers I keep getting is NORMAL NORMAL NORMAL. I think its bull. Because people don't normally start shaking like that for no apparent reason. It doesnt happen to often. But over the past 8 months I would say it happened maybe 15 times. Lately, I have been getting VERY dizzy and do feel it coming on.. but i usually just lie in bed until the feeling goes away. It's just not a way to live life. Being afraid of when and where its going to happen.

NORMAL, NORMAL, NORMAL is so frustrating! Most of my tests have always come back normal too. It is a matter of catching one of those stupid episodes when they happen. I've never had a seizure during a regular eeg. Mine were'nt diagnosed until I wore a portable one at home for a weekend. Also recently I had a veeg and finaly had seizures the 11th day I was there. We now know where they are comming from. It took many years and many doctors to get where I am now, I knew by reading that I was having some type of seizure well before any of my doctors did. It has been a real struggle to manage them, trying almost every aed in the book. You have one advantage, this site. Here you can learn as much as possible about epilepsy, ask others questions, get support and find through others words how best to describe your episodes. So keep reading and asking questions and reaching out as it will help you with your journey to a diagnosis. Maybe you will not have to go through years of frustration. Good luck with your tests and I hope you get results soon. Smiles!

Hi. I know exactly how you feel. I know this can be very frustrating to get diagnosed. I have been told that my EEG was normal and that my MRI was normal (even though report says I have mild brain atrophy) I am going for a second opinion later this week. One thing you might do is start keeping a journal of when they happen. You want to note the date, what you were doing at the time you had the episodes, what you felt during them, how long they lasted, what others have noted about your behavior during them, and at what point you were in during your monthly cycle (I am assuming your are female.) You also might want to note if you slept well the previous night. Take that journal into your doctor and make sure he reads it. That might help identify the triggers. I wish you well. Hang in there. tlh64

(((HUG!!!))) My family doctor doesn't listen to me unless my husband comes with me. It royally ticks me off. =( You know something is wrong, but everything comes back normal. Well, this feeling isn't a normal feeling. If it were a normal feeling, everyone would feel it. But not everyone feels it, that makes it completely NOT normal. Good luck. I'm still waiting on my own EEG and MRI results to come back. I am hoping that something (I don't even care what) shows up.
