Simple partial continous seizures?

Wed, 02/07/2007 - 13:44
Hi, I'm 38 and have been an epilepsy patient for 17 years. My problem has been only localized to my frontal lobe, but I haven't had the means to undergo MRI or video EEG diagnostics to further localize. In the past, I suffered from simple partial seizures that would initially manifest as feelings of intoxication, then cognitive dysfunction, then motor seizures, and rarely, generalized tonic clonic. My seizure activity follows a strong catamenial pattern, in which symptoms get worst perimenstrually. I'm currently on high dose Keppra monotherapy. Initially, Keppra reduced the magnitude of my symptoms significantly, but after a couple months partially lost effectiveness, with a return/increase in symptoms. Still, on Keppra, my symptoms are milder than when I'm on NO anticonvulsant therapy. My symptoms of feelings of intoxication and cognitive dysfunction are significant, though, and unacceptable. My question is this: is there anyone else out there who suffers from more or less continuous seizure symptoms, rather than having seizure "events" that you can count? I could never "count" my "seizures" because I'm always affected by my seizure disorder. As a result, I'm ruled out as a candidate for clinical trials/studies, etc... I've never been able to attach a term to characterize the type of continuous, conscious, simple, partial seizure activity I expereince. I suspect there are others out there who also don't have discrete seizure "events", or only have such events on occasion due to AED control. Anyone??? Thanks, Lil
