Seizures or Migraines....Drs. don't know

Mon, 01/02/2006 - 22:29
It's a feeling like I'm ice skating, right next to a cliff. I keep skating up to the edge and stop, but eventually I don't stop, and go right over the edge. My face tingles, my heart races, I'm extremely dizzy, then I go stiff and very still. I can't talk, I can understand speech & what is going on around me but its all moving in slow motion, I move extremely slow, have to have help to walk, toward the end of it all I start to shake really hard like I'm freezing, only usually I'm very warm to the touch. Then I'm exhausted and can fall asleep just about anywhere. I've had every test known to man, including a 24 hr EEG that showed nothing. They want to put me in hospital for 3 days and do a non-stop EEG. I just want to feel better. Dr. says could be seizure, could be migraine equivalent (I have no pain). He really has no idea and I am very discouraged. Anybody else had anything even close to this? Thanks! Amy

Aside from the EEG, have they done a CT or MRI of the brain?

Oh yes, the first time it happened they actually thought I'd had a TIA. I've had multiple MRIs & CAT scans, an MRA, EKG, Echocardiogram, a holter monitor for 24 hrs, ultrasound of my carotid arteries, blood sugar tests, and every blood test they could do...they took 18 viles of blood!! I've been on topamax, but can't stand the side effects any more so I stopped taking it. At this point I'd rather feel really good most of the time and deal with a bad day or two than be drugged up and feeling bad all the time.

Hi, Seizures can manifest themselves in so many different ways, as can migraines. I think it is an excellent suggestion by your doctor that you do the 3 day EEG. Many of the feelings you describe sound exactly like some of the symptoms during my complex partial seizures. I can hear people talking, but can not respond, and certainly can't walk in any meaningful direction. I sometimes get the shakes with these episodes.
