seizure while in hospital

Wed, 05/17/2006 - 18:55
Recently I was hospitalized for epilepsy testing. Partly because I had read a lot about epilepsy, I had some ideas about why might happen. On my third night in the hospital, the doctors (three of them!) told me I was to stay awake all night or as long as possible in order to cause a seizure. I managed to stay awake until 3:30 AM the next morning after which I had to get some sleep. But the nurse on duty woke me at 4:45. Oddly I could not go back to sleep even though I wanted to. I had been "wired" since the first night I was in the hospital and was literally "on a leash" with many wires attached to my head. Some time between 5:30 and 6 AM the next morning I had the seizure. I was told much later in the day that they had been able to track the seizure to the frontal area of my brain. Hopefully the slightly revised medication will keep these seizures unde control! Seven days in the hospital was not fun.
