Pregnant, Seizures & a Cyst

Sun, 02/25/2007 - 22:04
Wow I read about Eclampsia, it sounds like what my 24 year old Daughter is experiencing. She has never had a seizure, no history of seizures in our family but when she became pregnant she had her first seizure. She is only 17 weeks pregnant and has had four seizures. The doctor has increased her Dilantin and she is now taking 600 mg a day, 2 in the morning, 1 at mid day and 3 at night plus a Lunesta to ease the anxiety so she can sleep. All but one seizure happened while she was sleeping, all at night between 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM. Wikipedias description of Eclampsia is almost an exactly what happens to her, Premonitory stage this stage is usually missed unless constantly monitored, the woman rolls her eyes while her facial and hand muscles twitch slightly. Tonic stage soon after the premonitory stage the twitching turns into clenching. Sometimes the woman may bite her tongue as she clenches her teeth, while the arms and legs go rigid. The respiratory muscles also spasm, causing the woman to stop breathing. This stage continues for around 30 seconds. Clonic stage the spasm stops but the muscles start to jerk violently. Frothy, slightly bloodied saliva appears on the lips and can sometimes be inhaled. After around two minutes the convulsions stop, leading into a coma, but some cases lead to heart failure. Comatose stage the woman falls deeply unconscious, breathing noisily. This can last only a few minutes or may persist for hours. The only difference is she vomits once she startes breathing again. I am the only one she recognizes, she doesnt know where she is or what happend, but later remembers the seizures onset and hearing me say "its okay Shyla, I am here" Its startes when she feels her right foot twitching, it travels up her leg and she feels like she is sinking into the ground, then has the seizure. She also has a cyst on her right ovary. When they first saw it, it was 12 centimeters, it is now too large to measure on the ultra sound screen. She is having surgery March 1st to have it removed. I am so afraid for her and my little grandbaby. PLEASE can anyone help me. The doctors say the cyst has nothing to do with the seizures... how is that possible? Her seizures used to happen every 27 to 25 days, like her cycle, but the last one was only 2 weeks apart. Her cycle would be due again around Feb. 27th-March 3rd. I spend every second of every day worrying, I dont sleep, even though she sleeps with me now so I can be by her side just in case. I am trying to be positive but all I do is worry!!! I need an opinion, some advice, direction or reasurrance.
