PRE Seziure

Sun, 04/29/2007 - 09:14
Has anyone here heard of a "pre seziure"? I had tremors & stiffness yesterday (I stayed awake the whole time) and went to the ER and they said it was a pre seziure. I have had Epilepsy since I was 5 and never had a "pre seziure". Also, does anyone believe that if you take the same meds (Tegretol) for too many years that maybe the seziures might break through because your body has some type of resistance??? I go to the Neuro on Tuesday but I just thought I'd ask all of you as well from experience. Thank you! Dawn

I have had epilepsy for 36years now and have never heard of pre seizure? maybe they meant to say an aura, because that what sometimes happens to me.I have been on tegratol for over 20years now.The only thing the doc.said is the older you get your body cannot handle what it did when you were younger,or tolorate what it use to.So for it has'nt happened to me.I take 1000mgs a day of tegratol.I hope this helped you?

Hi Dawn, Yes I have

Hi Dawn, Yes I have heard/read about pre seizure (= preictal) symptoms. Just as interictal = between seizures; preictal and postictal = before & after seizures. However the symptoms often known as preictal (ie. 'early seizure symptoms/warnings)' are more properly known as a simple partial sizure if/when they occur alone (ie without being followed by a seizure where loss of consciousness is involved). http://www.epilepsy.com/101/ep101_symptom.html Yes, one can become tolerant to meds. It can happen almost immediately, possibly after many years or it may never happen. http://www.epilepsy.com/articles/ar_1064956631.html hope that helps, ~sol
