Possible Diagnoses of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

Fri, 06/23/2017 - 12:42
I started experiencing symptoms over the last 3 months that my neurologist thought was MS. My symptoms are as follows: Numbness in feet and legs, pins and needles sensations, leg weakness, muscle spasms in my legs, face and upper back, internal and external tremors, crawling sensations in legs, memory loss, inability to think and process information, and some confusion. These symptoms come throughout the day, every day. My brain MRI showed two very small lesions, but it also showed that I have a decrease in volume in my temporal lobe, which the nurse practitioner said was a sign of mesial temporal lobe sclerosis. She also thinks I could be having temporal lobe seizures. She scheduled me for another MRI of the temporal lobe to see what it shows. I am very discouraged because I personally feel like this nurse practitioner was not taking anything serious and is wanting to do a bunch of unnecessary test. I am also a 26 year old female, who has never had a prior history of epilepsy or brain injury. The only thing I can think of is that I had pneumonia not too long prior to all these symptoms starting. I ran a very high fever that was between 103 and 105 degrees for 7 days. My question is, does this, for anyone who has TLE sound like the right kind of symptoms.

OK I read your post and you

OK I read your post and you have questions. If an MRI shows something and a doctor knows what else can happen with the things they see shouldn't they inform you? If a different MRI is done and they find more out from it then what would you do? If what they find shows something and another test needs to be done. Would you object to that test? Understand that anything that is not normally on the brain can cause problems. One of those isues is epilepsy. Some of the symptoms you posted could be parts of seizures as well.By anything different or not normal I mean a cell growth. The MRI showed leisons and a decrease in volume. That is something that didn't grow right. So that can cause a person to have epilepsy.I have scar tissue in the left lobes of my brain. That caused my epilepsy.Have the test run and they then may want an EEG. Which is a brain wave test showing the electrical output coming from your brain. What starts a seizure is an electrical discharge hitting wrong in the brain which causes a chain reaction. Abnormalities can cause the discharges to hit wrong.Which means the nurse practitioner was looking out for you since they are thinking of other things that can show up. Meaning if they left it alone and you do have epilepsy then tests would have to be done for it and medication issues could arise.

Just realized a bit ago after

Just realized a bit ago after posting that I had one or more seizures in my sleep last night. Bit my tongue, extreme muscle pain is setting in over the totally numb body and mind, mildly dislocated shoulder... and a rambling message mostly off topic from your actual questions. To answer you more directly. I'd say I still don't fully understand all of my symptoms and don't realize i am having different kinds of seizures or identify some things as seizures even after 4 years. I always just thought a seizure is when you collapse and shake and although I have those tonic clonic generalized seizures, I've had many other symptoms that are hard to even identify let alone describe to drs. I also think it is true that some symptoms can be very specific to certain types of seizures, but sometimes they cross boarders and don't follow the rules of what specific symptoms relate to what specific seizure disorders.
