Normal EEG, Findings on the MRI

Mon, 10/17/2016 - 07:23
Please can somebody tell me if they have had a similar experience? My GP referred me to a neurologist for suspicion of TLE after what sounded like simple partial seizures. My short EEG showed no abnormalities but my MRI showed small hyperintensities bilaterally in the temporal lobe. Still awaiting results of my 24 hour EEG but the neurologist was dismissive of the MRI results and told me it is age related. As I'm only 30 years old I am concerned about this statement? Has anybody else had normal EEG's (Doc seems to think the 24 hour EEG won't show anything) with similar findings on their MRI?

A question you should find an answer to is the neurologist a specialist in epilepsy. If not then you need to find one As for short EEG's I had 20-25 and they all came back normal. I fell asleep in another one in which they found abnormalities. Longer or sleep deprived EEG's do show more. There are deveral different types of MRI's. The MRI is showing the brain as it is. If they find abnormalities on the EEG they will look closer in that area ion the MRI. What most people do not think about is what is on the brain or it there is a brain cell that grew wrong. That is all it would take to have an electrical impulse to hit wrong. So wait for the longer EEG and it's results.  And do get a specialist in epilepsy...
