Non epileptic Attack Disorder

Sun, 05/28/2006 - 10:11
Hi guys, well there is an awful lot on here about epilepsy, but like a lot of you i have been diagnosed with non epileptic attack disorder or nes or psudoseizures. I thought that it may be helpful to others with this disorder to know who is out there with it and how others are coping and with any problems they have experienced with doctors and what meds they are on and what alternative treatments they are undergoing. Non epileptic attack disorder is one of the many ways the body tries to relieve stress, this is often in the form of a seizure or alternatively it mimicks other neurological disorders such as MS or blindness. However though it may look as if you have neurological smptoms they are not actually there. I will continue to research into this disorder and update on this discussion forum and if any one else has any information or experiences to add please feel free!!! Emily :o) x x x

After a few months of major stress and lack of sleep I collpased at the gym with what appeared to be a gran ma seizure......I will let you knwo what the doctor says but it certainly has changed my life, at least short term! The best thing about it is that it brought me closer to the woman who was causing the stress ( along with me )! It happened after a vigorous aerobic workout!!! No matter what happens...I will always have abond with anyone who has had a seizure!!! Has anyone seen the diagnosis of Stacey Kiebler's seizure??? I t was designated a "fluke"! I didn't know what that was a medical term!

non epileptic disorder: basically due to some underlying stress caused by something that ay have happened in your past or due to something that your body cannot cope with at present causes the brain to shut down chemically NOT neurologically therefore it displays symptoms that are the same as or very imilar to neurological symptoms therefore it is hard to diagnose. Generally doctors will diagnoe this if a person is having sz or something similar and there is no found neurological cause, this is then treated with psychiatric treatment and depending on the type of sz or disorder some drugs may be given to calm the spasms. epilepsy, has a known neurological origin, can have warning but not necessarily, HOWEVER not always do the test come back positive so if you are told it non epileptic attack disorder without trying drug treatments DONT be fobbed off cos it not right if it just hasnt shown up on ur scans. ok now somataform disorder is very similar to non epileptic disorder, it stems from psychological unrest, even as with n.E>A>D you may not feel stressed or upset etc in any way t may stem from the past, somataform disorder basically shuts down ur body so that u have paralyss similar to MS or a stroke, though there is no known neurologicl origin, it may cause pain but you will always be concious, it may get worse ie you can be paralysed for the rest of your life r it may get better (i have friends from both situation) Friends like those that I have found here are friends that will last forever. Thank you all, you are lovely!!! :o)
