Need a few questions answered

Wed, 03/14/2007 - 20:19
Hello My name is Tiffany and I am new to Epilepsy.com,I was admitted into icu a few weeks back and the doctors seem to think that it was seizures. Problem is that ALL of my tests came back normal. Some are better than normal. my question is: Has anyone else had this problem? If so...what was the outcome? I am out of work until they can figure out what is going on..can I apply for disability income? Should I wait to apply? Any advice at all would be great thank you in advance Tiffany from Monroe GA

Hi Tiffany, Welcome to the site!

Unfortunately, most times tests are normal but that doesn't mean that people aren't having seizures. In fact you want many tests to be okay right now.. They are probably looking for possible causes of seizures. To tell for sure if the events you had were seizures, they would need to record you during one.

Here are some links to info on the home page that may help to get you started in learning about seizures. Start with the basics and make a list of questions to take to the doctor. You may also want to ask if they have a social worker to talk to about the effect this may have on life. Can be mixed bag sometimes. Just because you have seizures doesn't mean that you must be disabled. Ideally you'll be able to get back to work. If you need short-term disability and have a policy through work, may want to look into it, but social security disability doesn't kick in until you are disabled for over a year.. or is it 18 months? here's a link to disability as well.

Take a look at the first aid info as well - family and friends may also have questions and this may help them too!
