Hi Steph, I take it you are referring to a VEEG. I had one in May for my pre-surgical testing but also have read quite a few variations here on my.epilepsy.com as to the actual procedure. For one thing, don't worry, it is painless. I believe the main difference will probably depend on where you are having it done. Mine was done in Atlanta, Georgia and they had me on the sleep deprivation and reduced my medication by 1/2 to try to induce the seizes. The first night I was allowed to sleep 9pm to 6am then the second night I was to sleep from 4am to 6am and then start the cycle all over. By the time I got to my 3rd day I had plenty of seizure activity and they were able to put me back up to my normal medication level and let me go home from the hospital. Believe me, if I had to actually stay awake for more than a day, I wouldn't have made it. In fact, on that first night that I had been up all day and was supposed to remain awake until 4am, I the nurse had come in to check on me at about 1am and I told her I didn't know if I was going to make it until 4am and she told me to just try to go as far as I could and when I went to sleep they would time me for 2 hours from then and get me back up. Everyone in the hospital was very kind and make sure you bring whatever you like to do in your spare time like reading, cards, you can watch tv, etc. Please write back if you have more questions. And good luck! Dawn ;-)
