Lamictal and Dehydration

Thu, 07/04/2013 - 11:40
I am on Lamictal 200mg twice a day and have not had a seizure in 8 months. However, I have had 2 aura's during the past 8 months. Recently, my neurologist allowed me to drive. However, when I travel more than a couple of hours I have a terrible headache and it feels like I am dehydrated. I am drinking a lot of water etc to keep myself hydrated. I checked online and there are articles that state Lamictal increases the possibility of dehydration. Is anyone experiencing similar symptoms when you drive for long distances? Please provide your experience and any tips you may have to address this situation.

Hi I realise you posted this a while ago but could you tell me where you saw these articles? The links could be useful to me just now. I was put on lamotrigine and I took myself off the drug after I was getting nothing, useful from doctors, when I asked if the exacerbation of another medical condition could be related to the end of the lamotrigine titration. I later found out - not from a doctor -that the condition is exacerbated by dehydration. Coming of lamotrigine has helped but things arent in anyway back to how they were pre-lamotrigine.
