I have been going through my many years of journaling, something I highly recommend everyone do, so as to be prepared for my epi appointment. This is ridiculous! Feb 5 1996 Was at the kids school doing some volunteer work and had my daughter who at the time was 5. We were waiting for some others to work on a reading program we put together. Sitting at the table, daughter happily coloring and myself sorting lists. Next thing I know I'm laying on the floor with ice on my head, my friend sitting next to me. So so hard to stay awake and my head feeling like it's going to explode. I had no warning of a seizure comming, just thought that maybe I tripped getting up or something, don't recall getting up though. My friend had called my husband and he took me to the hospital. There they do a catscan, blood tests and give me a tylenol 3 for the headache. On a stretcher in the hall at the e.r. breathing in ambulance exhaust fumes, they left the door open and the ambulance running, I starting trying to leave because smells realy bother me. Had such a hard time staying awake. Tests came back ok so they reluctently let me go. Slept and slept and slept. Later the next day put a call into nuerologist; does'nt return my call and leaving the next day for holidays. Call general doc and she is on holidays. Call other nuero, no return call and leaving for holidays. Tried a call to an epiletologist that I was scheduled to see; cannot help as he has not seen me yet, moves appointment up, says go back to hospital. Call another general doc I had seen before; says cannot interfere in my case, go back to hospital. I did not want to go back to the hospital, what are they going to do? Ok so I've been almost non stop sleeping and head still hurts big time. Back to the hospital. There I am told there is nothing they can do, see your own doc, hmmm who has the concusion? Been 3 days and having constant simple and complex partial seizures. Day 4 I can finaly stay awake more, have amnesia, everything seems unfamiliar and strange. See epi, set up for amulatory eeg which recorded tons of seizures comming from left temporal lobe. Start new meds. Hey it only took nine years to get here! Since then I have been through 10 kinds of meds and seizures continued to get more frequent. Finaly have a team of great specialists and looking into surgery. 21 years after my search for answers began. Turns out I have been having seizures since I was a child and that they also are comming from the right temporal lobe.
