Help me with decision please!

Hello and thank you if you are reading this. My 8 month old son last week started having what doctors the past day calling seizures. They look like he is just angry and shaking a bit and they last mostly 1-2 seconds but have seen one last 4 seconds, in the past week hes had maybe 1 a day or upto 5 a day, he doesnt close his eyes when they happen, vomit, urinate etc and he also doesnt seem effected from them afterwards and goes straight back to playing, laughing etc. All his tests came back fine blood, EEG ( he had one of these episodes while getting the EEG and it still came back fine), hes been in hospital since last week. They said at 1st it was possibly a viral infection, yesterday they said it could just be a "unknown" thing that will pass.....but now today...they want him out of hospital tomorrow and to put him on epilepsy medication! I feel like they just cant figure out what is wrong with him and want to label it epilepsy and get it out of the hospital(NHS), they want him started on the medication tomorrow too. This is what is troubling me, i really don't want him on the medication that lasts two years for the simple fact it might not be epilepsy, and this "episodes" might simply leave his system and hell get back to normal...but if he takes the medication and still goes back to normal gradually....he'll be laballed he needs the medication because it helps :( My girlfriend and i argued today about it badly, she wants him on the medication and i dont, i want to wait a week and see if he improves naturally instead of feeling he's being a guinae pig to test drugs on from the hospital....its ripping me apart!

I am so sorry you guys are going through this. This is a hard situation to be in. I cant tell you what the right answer is. This is something you and your girlfriend have to decide together. I can tell you about my daughter. She has seizures and she has them for four years now. She has been in the hospital having seizures, the doctors have seen it and we have seen it but nothing showed up on her test. This was very hard to understand.I have since learned that you can have normal test and still have seizures. When she first started having seizures it was right before christmas. She had several in a 10 day time period. It took 2 months to get her in with the neruo. She started on meds at that time. Talk to the doctor with your girlfriend and see how they feel about waiting to start on meds.Dont be afraid to ask questions. Good luck to you and your family.

Wow littlebug...this is very interesting to me about your daughter.I also have seen by a neuro and epi and had all tests done including 2 veeg's..all come back normal but they have seen the seizures and said they are real..but NES (non epileptic sz)so NO meds for me...they wouldn't help.So they say see psych and psychologist.Saw both and the psychologist saw me have one...he says Simple partial and Left Temporal Lobe E.Psychiatrist has me on Lamictal and Klonopin and they are helping by reducing the seizures by 30%.Both psychiatrist and psychologist say that if you have more than one seizure it is epilepsy,no matter what tests results say.I also have a small meningioma tumor on left of brain.Isn't it strange how your daughters neuro put her on meds right away even though tests were normal and mine says no way!all in my head.Good luck and God bless you and daughter.
