Help!!! Ambulatory EEG

Tue, 03/18/2008 - 18:44

Hi, I have been having complex partial seizures every two weeks and what my doctor thinks might be myoclonic muscle spasms, about 15 a day. I am going to have an 72 hour Ambulatory EEG but I have never had one before. Could anybody explain to me what its really like? Is there anything I should know? ALso, should/can I wear it to school if thats where the majority of my seizures take place? Any Advice would by greatly appreciated! Thanks

I don't know what an ambulatory EEG is. I am considering having a 24-hour EEG done on me because I want a record of seizure activity over an entire day rather than an hour like normal EEGs. I believe I'm having myoclonic seizures as well. Could you tell me what yours are like and how severe they are? It happens to me what seems like at least 20 times a day.

Haha, okay an ambulatory EEG is a 24-hour EEG except yours is for 72. (Thanks Epilepsy.com!) I was offered one a few years ago but declined as it would be too embarrassing for me. Now I want one done since I am still having problems. I wouldn't wear it to class because it is very noticeable. I'll probably spend that time at home with coffee, my bed and movies. Or do you have to go about your normal activities with it?

I don't think I have to wear it to class, in which case I won't. Although I don't know how I am going to spend 72 hours without going outside and being active!

As for Myoclonic seizures I am experiencing short, sharp jerks in the muscles of my legs, arms, and lower back. The twitches as  I call them can by strong enough to move my leg or skew my writing but mainly they just feel like the muscle is contracting. They are extremely fast but don't seem to spread to both sides of the body like myoclonic seizures are supposed to do, I thought. I still don't believe that they can actually be seizures, they are so different from any other seizure I have had!
