Exact site in brain for absence epilepsy is what?

Thu, 10/24/2013 - 10:03
A question: What is the exact site in the human brain believed to be behind absense seizures (~ 2.5 Hz spike-wave discharges)? How large or small is the original focus suspected to be? Large marble size? Medium marble size? Small marble size? Pea size? Or what? Please share your knowledge and ideas. Anyone aware of photographs of the brain which clearly display the believed focus behind absense seizures? X-ref: How the USA weather service displays the track of tornadoes clearly using a wide array of photography equipment.

Hi PDG

I am trying to understand your post but it is confusing considering tracking tornadoes has nothing to do with the brain.

Now as for absense seizures. That is a TYPE of seizure and can come from several areas of the brain. I have Grande Mal, Pettit mal and focal motor epilepsy. Diagnosed in 1963. It wasn't until the 1980's that neurologists went into specialization which is when they set seizures up in types. My absence seizures could come from any of the epilepsies I posted. Most of my seizures are basically absence or partial seizures. They can morph into other types of seizures.partial intp complex partial into generalized into  tonic clonic into grand mal or focal motor seizures which look like and are as bad as grande mal. The main differeence is in those convulsions I am fully aware of what is happening and can see, hear and understand what is happening. I just can't stop the seizure until it is over.

All a seizure is is and electrical impusle hitting the brsin wrong which causes a chain reaction. Think of setting up dominoes all lined up and then tapping one they fall one after another until all of them are down. Medications are like your finger going between 2 dominoes which keeps a domino from hitting the nex which stops the chain reaction.

My epilepsy is caused by scared brain tissue which is in more than 1 lobe of the brain.

The person you need to really aske your question to would be the neurologist because he generally reads the EEg's and does know the spikes and theis size. Oh and the area the spikes are in would also be the area that can be checked for anything different.

My EEG shows a spike in the left side of my brain the main area is the left temperal lobe but after checking it dose cover more than 1 lobe.

I hope this helps
