Epilepsy or Migraine or Some Other

Sat, 03/11/2017 - 23:14
Hi, Past Medical Issue : I had migraine at the age of 15 to 20. I am 34 and I do not have migraine at all. At Present : From the age of 21, I started fainting down unconscious. This only happens as soon as wake up, brush my teeth and I head to the Kitchen. If I hold a spoon or plate, it falls down from my hand without any knowledge. If I sense that this is happening, I soon head to the bed and get some sleep. If I dont head to the bed , I usually faint down and I am admitted at the ambulance triage. This had has happened 7 times in a span of age 22 to 34. Once or twic I have bite my tongue on fainting . I have visited several doctors and have done most of diagnostics : I have done the below : 1. MRI scan of the brain 2. CT scan 3. EEG 4. Measured heart beat for a whole 2 days 5. Blood tests 6. BP and Sugar tests All have been found normal and no issues were found at all. One of the doctor said this might be a migraine syncope. One of the doctor said its epilepsy. One of the doctor said, I dont have to take medicine since I do not have a frequency as seen with Epileptic patient which is once or twice in a year. I still haven't found out what is the issue. Could someone help me, in letting me know what is next diagnostic procedure that I have to carry out.

WelcomeOK the first tests a

WelcomeOK the first tests a neurologist does are the EEG and an MRI. One shows the electrical output coming from your brain. The other shows what the brain looks like and if there is ANYTHING different on yours. Now you said you visited several doctors. What kind of doctors did you visit? Were any of them neurologists that specialized in epilepsy? I had lots of tests done including 20-25 different regular EEG's and they all came back normal. a longer one in which I fell asleep in came back with abnormalities. Abnormalities are spikes or waves aka seizure activity or epileptiform.  By seeing them they knew where they came from and they then looked at the MRI in that area a closer look showed scar tissue. Now most of what you typed could be seizures of one kind or another. So please get your PC to refer you to a neurologist that specializes in epilepsy and discuss these issues with them.syncope is a bit different. It has to do with the blood flow to the brain. Fainting and loss of muscle tone are associated with it.I hope this helpsJoe

Thanks a lot for your reply

Thanks a lot for your reply and for your time. I had visited the Neurologist itself many times who were specialized with epilepsy and EEGs. One of the doctor without doing any tests confirmed it is Epilepsy - and suggested me medicenes; which I didnt take at all. Another doctor did MRI and EEG. The EEG was a normal EEG and not in which I fell asleeep. Nothing abnormal was found during the normall EEG process. But as I said the seizures only appear once or twice in a year - and I am thinking should I be concerned about it and start taking medicenes. But feels if I take medicenes this would for life time. But still I am in a doubt are these epileptic seizures.Whenever this happens, I shiver, my eyes moves to one side and I bite my tongue. Biting my tongue has happened only twice. I know when this occurs - I wake up, and when I head to kitchen or take anything in my hands, it falls down. Immediately I go sit, and then these seizures happen. Once I noticed this and went to sleep and there was no issue at all. Once a doctor said, I went low in sodium level. At times when I wake I feel dehydrated too on certain days. Are these any causes. Everytime I have these seizures, an ambulance is called in and I am admitted in the hospital for atleast 4 to 5 hours. Wherein, none of the MRI, blood tests, EEG shows anyything abnormal. I am really concerned on what next diagnostic step should I take, to find out on what is the cause.

OK I'll give you a little

OK I'll give you a little history. I was being written up fpr day dreaming in class. about 2 times a quarter. 6 months later it was 4 times a month. I would get a weird feeling in my right hand. There 2-3 a month to start. Then the next month I had them every 2 weeks. Then they went up to 2 a week. Then I had a grand mal. After the testing my diagnosis was Grand Mal, Petite Mal and Focal Motor Epilepsy. Notice the numbers increased? They also intensified. Finally I had the grand mal. So all those day dreams in class and those weird feelings were seizures. They came on no special day or time of day. While in one I tossed my step father across my body while in a convulsion. He only weighed 235 I weighed 85 and was 13.Medications can control your seizures. Right now they are getting more numerous and will get stronger without treatment. As to a cause many people will never know what CAUSES their seizures. The EEG can pinpoint the location they start in,For me the abnormalities came from the left lobes of my brain. The neurologists went back and checked those lobes in the MRI. In that check they found scar tissue. For others it could be a mal formed brain cell or a syct or tumor a growth of any kind or lack of correctly growing cell formation. Untell you have tests and a neurologists that specializes in epilepsy looks at them then you can still be an epileptic. All it takes is 2 seizures that are known. What starts a seizure is an electrical impulse hitting wrong in your brain. That hit causes a chain reaction (the seizure).Research this site in the learn sections and find out all the types of epilepsy and types of seizures there are. Then research the symptoms and see just where many of the things you posted could be.
