EMU

Wed, 06/03/2015 - 15:26

I am going in for an EMU next Friday and I am starting to feel a bit  aprehensive. Not for the reasons you may think. This is the second EMU I have had. My first experience was horrible. However, I have had a very positive experience so far leading up to this one. Last time I was isolated for one week and the doctors did not want anybody around.  The doctors were rude. This time around I am going with a different hospital. They are much more family oriented. The doctor said at

my last visit leading up to the EMU  and all of the literature I have received from the EMU depertment has encouraged family to visit to make to stay as comfortable as possible. There is actually a pull-out sleeper couch if one person wants to spend the night. I have been in the process of coordinating family that will spend days with me. During this process I was feeling good. Until last night when I realized that I was essentially inviting them up to watch me have seizures. Because that is the actual whole point of entering the EMU in the first place. Now I am beginning to get nervous about actually asking them to come to spend time with me. It is like a double edged sword. I want their company because I remember to lonliness of the last EMU, but I am afraid to have them come up because I do not want them to see me in such a vulnurable state!!! Any thoughts????

Realx especially if they are

Realx especially if they are family. I was one a couple of times. No meds doesn't mean yo uwill have a seizure. Understand that when you are taking medications those medications are feeding into the theraputic levels. Both of the times I was in them I had family and friends come in. We watched movies and pladed cards and other things. If they support you then they want what is best for you and that is a great thing.I had a simple partial seizure the 3rd day and several more on other days, I hit the button and let them know and they maerked the EEG. Without your daily meds they will rather more information because they may be seeing more abnormalities and better view of where they are copmmng from. Come back and let us know how thigs went. Joe
