eeg 2nd opinions

Sat, 05/13/2006 - 01:16
Hi, Does anyone have any experience with a new dr getting access to a previous eeg strip, to have it reviewed by another neuro? The reason would be to get an independent 2nd reading and opinion on the tracing itself (i.e. without referring to the old 2 paragraphs written report). But I don't know whether it would be better to indicate this purpose openly the previous dr or department that holds the old tracing, or just try to keep the request as low key as possible, maybe not even give a reason, or just say 'for comparision with other results' or something. Do hospitals or private practioners who hold our previous records, test results, etc. usually agree to such a request for access? My GP is a bit unsure whether they will agree, but might be willing to give it a try for me. How insistent should she be? Thanks for any tips, maddie

you should be able to request a CD of the tracing, ask which soft ware is used and if necessary a READ only of it if your new neuro needs of that...I know this is a lof to rememeber...I have been told by one hospital that their equipment is TOO old for this. Another tech has told me this is balderdash and if I put it into writing they HAVe to print out the tracing, if nothing else... OLD units at least can print it out, like they all used to do before digital EEG. OUr first EEG was this way and the tech actually DID this for a sample for same to keep! hope this helps.
