Doctors seem to think it's reflux that looks like seizures...

Wed, 01/04/2006 - 21:24
Last April "babyz" posted a note about her six month old son who was having episodes of staring, not breathing, followed by a period where he was "out of it." The subsequent posts didn't indicate what exactly happened and I am very curious as my seven month old is experiencing the same thing she described. Can anyone help? The doctors just ordered my son a 24 hour EEG but also prescribed my son prevacid thinking what he'sexperiencing is probably reflux. It's very frightening -- out of the blue he stops breathing, stares straight ahead, his bottom lip curls in and he is unresponsive for about 30 seconds, followed by an extremely sleepy/letharghic period of several minutes. Sound familiar to anyone?? HELP!!!

I am so sorry this is happening with your baby! It sounds very frightening. His other eeg, did he have an "episode" during the EEG? I hope the 24 hour will reveal what is going on. I know I have read that reflux can look like epilepsy, but I have no idea how. No experience, but my heart aches for you. I know how hard it is when answers are not straightforward. Have you seen other neuros to see if they can find answers that current ones are not? I hope you find help!
