daughter's funny feelings

Wed, 02/28/2007 - 09:43
My 6 1/2 year old daughter has had funny feelings from 2005. During these feeings she talks of things being far away, "grizzly" noises, me sounding like a monster, things/people sounding far away. Epilepsy runs in both my mothers family and my fathers family. I too have what I call funny turns when I feel that parts of my body have moved and/or are growing. I was tested for epilepsy when I was 8. The EEG came back normal. Mydaughter had a sleep deprived EEG, it too was normal. I firmly believe that my daughter is experiencing some form of epileptic seizure but the specialist suggested glue ear(tested several times found ok). Over the weekend her funny feelings have become very regular, up to 10 per day. She oftens talks of being sleeping when I know for a fact she wasn't. I am trying to keep a log of the feelings to bring to local G.P but don't know how to approach situation. SOunds awful but I would prefer G.P to prescibe AED and see if daughters funny feelings go away. PLEASE advice A.S.A.P

My daughter is 8 and has had similar sensations. She had an MRI and EEG also which is normal. I'm taking her to an ENT to get checked out. The neurologist said possibly seizures or or migraine varient with no headache. I might possibly try medications. Especially since this has happened at school and she was very upset by it.

Could you let me know how you get on. Have been to neurologist with daughter but she said it was glue ear causing these feelings. Daughter is getting very frustrated and starting to hit herself on head to try to get rid of the feelings that she is experiencing.h.irvine@ntlworld.com

Someone suggested that I researh micropsia also known as Allison in wonderland syndrome. This sounds similar to what my daughter is experiencing. Micropsia can be a form of migraines in children. Try googling. I'm going to see what the neurologist thinks. Maybe try migraine meds first. See if episodes go away.
