Creutzfeldt- Jakob or Unerricht-Lumborg?

Sat, 09/01/2007 - 20:07
My husband is 35 yrs old and has just been diagnosed with Progressive Myoclonic Epilepsy. Now they are looking for isn’t cause. He had a lumbar puncture about a month ago and his protein levels where very high. Because of the results of that test he had another one yesterday, so they could send fresh samples to other labs in different states in the country for testing. In particular they are looking for the Prion protein with could diagnosis him with Creutzfeldt- Jakob disease. But the doctor and I both agree that he is not deteriorating fast enough for it to be that, though they still need to rule it out. What I am wondering is could it be Unerricht-Lumborg disease? They are both caused by a protein mutation per say, but obviously by different proteins. His symptoms seem to be a lot of the same as the ULD except that what I have read is that it comes on in adolescence not in adult hood. Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this that they could share?
