Could this be a simple partial seizure???

Mon, 12/01/2014 - 17:36

BEFORE I BEGIN I'M SORRY THIS IS SO LONG BUT I WANTED TO PROVIDE AS MUCH DETAIL AS POSSIBLE.

Well for starters I'm 15 years old and I have never had a seizure before in my life. In the spring I had a strange episode which I pushed to the back of my mind because I feared I was going insane, but I haven't had another event like this. Just last week I stumbled upon an article about simple partial seizures, and I was immediately baffled by how much it mirrored my symptoms during my weird episode. However since I've never had anything like it before, I can't be sure that it actually was a seizure. I'm too scared to say anything to my parents in case they think I'm jumping to conclusions, making it up, or that I need to be sent to a psychiatrist.

The event started in the evening with me feeling sort of weird before, like an maybe hour before I started feeling a bit off. Eventually I got up and wrapped myself in a blanket and laid down. After laying down for a while I could hear the TV in the other room and suddenly I realized I could not decipher what the people were saying, none of it made sense. I started feeling more out of it and a bit scared, almost like a paranoia type fear. Lights started to look a bit hazy and I saw a black blob in my peripheral and when I directed my attention to it, it disappeared. I got up to get ready for bed (I remember just thinking I would sleep the weird feeling off) and wandered upstairs, still scared and wrapped in the blanket. When I made it to the second floor, I started seeing little flashes of light that looked like little dots and streaks just flashing on and off. Upon entering my room I got changed (fully aware of what I was doing) and I looked in my closet to find the shelves looked like they were bulging out toward me. When I turned back around to face my room it looked bigger than usual and my TV seemed abnormally far away. I went to the washroom to wash my face and such and I guess I dropped the blanket by accident. At this point there were no more visual distortions or hallucinations. I recall staring at the blanket for a solid 5 seconds and being hit with this intense confusion that I couldn't explain, to be honest I don't even know what I was confused about. I ended up just standing in the bathroom for a bit so scared and confused and I thought I was losing my mind. I wandered around a bit disoriented and out of it for probably another 5-10 minutes (hard to remember) and not acting like myself. I had a headache (which I can't remember when exactly it started) and once I crawled into bed, after a few minutes the headache went away and I felt completely back to normal again but tired and I fell asleep shortly after.

I would have to guess the visual distortions/hallucinations probably only lasted about 2-3 minutes but I can't be sure considering it happened so long ago so the memory is a bit fuzzy now. I talked to my dad at some point which I remember because he startled me but I can't seem to fit this event in with the rest of the things, as in I don't know at what point during the event this happened. Anecdotally, I remember my cat followed me around for most of the strange episode.

At the time I only told a few people I trusted about what happened, one of which told me that I "self-induced" the symptoms and that I was making it all up even though I had no idea what happened and had never had anything like this before nor did I have an explanation for it. I'm terrified that anyone else I tell will say the same thing.

Could this be a seizure or does it sound like something completely different? I'm so at a loss for what this could be. If anyone knows anything about this sort of experience it would be greatly appreciated.
