Convulsive seizures w/o loss of consciousness?

Sun, 06/25/2017 - 11:03
For the past two months, I've been experiencing what I thought were simple partial seizures. It felt like extreme spacing out, where the air around me grew very heavy and I had trouble with movement and speech. This past Monday, it happened again, but then my right side began to convulse. That was something new and alarming, but things got worse yesterday morning. I began feeling the usual heaviness that tells me a seizure is on the way, and so I went into my bedroom (I live with family) and paced around a little, thinking if I kept myself up and moving it might pass. Instead, my right arm began to twist, where if I focused enough it might stop for a second, but would go right back to twisting. I decided to go ahead and lie down on my bed, and a few seconds later began to have full body convulsions, starting in my right side and spreading to the rest of my body. I was still conscious throughout the whole thing though, and was able to roll myself out of my bed onto the floor and was able to unlock and open my door to call for help. I went in to the ER afterwards just to be on the safe side. They said that my CT scan was normal, and they want me to still follow up with an neurologist (my appointment isn't until August..). They said it doesn't sound like an epileptic seizure because, despite the convulsions, I was still aware throughout. So the big question here is... what could it be? Is there anyone here who has convulsive seizures without losing your consciousness?

Yes!! I am in the hospital having an EEG done as I speak haha. I have right temporal lobe epilepsy. Two failed brain surgeries. I have simple partial seizures similar to yours, before the actual complex partial seziure. During my seizure, I am completely concsious, well in 99 percent of them atleast.  It is very scary because you're aware but can't do much about it. I've done so much research on epilepsy since ive been living with it since I was 5 (23 yrs old now). I would ask your doctor to check out your temporal and frontal lobes . It definitely sounds like you have some sort of focal seizure. I hope I could help! P.S I highly advise that you do EXTENSIVE research on high rated neurologists (or if possible, an epileptologist) in your area. This is very important as it took me nearly my whole life to find a doctor who actually knows his stuff. Take care! ❤
