can someone help me understand my eeg results
Wed, 03/25/2015 - 06:50I have a copy of my eeg results that I am posting. I am new to seizures an all so if anyone could help me make any sense of this, it would really help. Thank you in advance.
BACKGROUND ACTIVITY:
the background activity consists of 11hz rhythm arising in the posterior head region. This rhythm has good amplitude and is bilaterally symmetrical and is reactive to eye opening and closure.
This rhythm is accompanied by a rare left frontal sharply contoured waves, but she also has sharps arising in the right frontotemporal & centrotemporal area.
This occurs more frequently and she also has episodes of 2.5 - 3 hz generalized slowing, which occurs during the tracing. Some of them have a small sharpened wave discharge.
This occurs infrequently during the tracing. This does not occur during the drowsiness.
PROCEDURES:
Hyperventilation was performed and was not accompanied by any additional abnormalities. Photic stimulation was performed and was accompanied by good driving response at multiple flash frequencies.
SLEEP PATTERN:
Drowsiness was observed during the tracing but no sleep spindles were noted during the tracing.
IMPRESSION:
The eeg is abnormal due to the presence of sharps arising in the left frontocentral & central parietal area & also due to the presence of generalized 2.5 & 3 hz slowing with some of the wave form having the appearance of spike & wave discharge and this can be consistent with seizure disorder, so please correlate clinically.

While I am not a doctor I know that most of the items posted are different parts of the EEG and each part does different things. Spikes and waves show some thigns and depending on where they come from would tell the neurologist where in the brain that activity came from. The last part is the part that you really need to look atIMPRESSION:The eeg is abnormal due to the presence of sharps arising in the left frontocentral & central parietal area & also due to the presence of generalized 2.5 & 3 hz slowing with some of the wave form having the appearance of spike & wave discharge and this can be consistent with seizure disorder, so please correlate clinically.The first sentence states abnormalities and where in the brain they came from Sharps would be spikes to some and waves are with almost every neurologist The person reading this and commenting on it is basically the spike and waves seen are consistant with seizure disorder. The phrase "Please correlate clinically" would most often appear on MRI, CAT, or X-Ray results or other tests like your EEG. To correlate means "see what matches and what doesn't match", If there are any abnormalities then they know where in your brain they came from. All a seizure is "is an electrical impulse going off wrong (abnormality) in your brain causing a chain reaction. I hope this helps and you get the assistance you need Joe
