Abnormal (epileptiform) EEG but no seizures

Thu, 04/03/2014 - 20:03

Hello. I have an abnormal EEG with bilateral epileptiform spikes. However, I never had a seizure, nor an abscense.

What could be the cause for such abnormal EEG?  I have a normal Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.

---------

more details:   I was misdiagnosed with epilepsy so I took Valcote for 1 year, then I did another EEG and it was normal, and because I actually never had seizures in my life, nor absences, my new neurologists ruled out epilepsy.

One year later I developed a psychotic break.   Now my psychiatrist is saying that the abnormal EEG may be related. Does anyone have any information on this?

Thanks

I have an abnormal EEG with bilateral epileptiform spikes. <<<< the abnormal spikes show that there is possiable seizure activity. That means seizures could happen. There are many people who have epilepsy which show no abnormality but they still have seizures. My cousin was diagnosed with epilepsy. She was a teen at that time and she had seizures. I do not know how many or what kind but she had them. She has been seizure free for many years now and takes NO AED's. She is married lives a full life and she works in the field she loves. The EEG shows neurologists where in the brain the activity comes from. If you were to have a seizure the neurologists would then know where in the brail to look for anything that could be in or on your brain. I was misdiagnosed with epilepsy so I took Valcote for 1 year, then I did another EEG and it was normal, and because I actually never had seizures in my life, nor absences, my new neurologists ruled out epilepsy. <<<< The diagnosis was correct at that time, The EEG was what was used to get the diagnosis. WHether you had a seizure or not the abnormal EEG showed what the neurologist needed. I have a normal Nuclear Magnetic Resonance <<<<<
