4 day VEEG

Thu, 10/09/2014 - 08:57

Hello

In November I am going in for a four day VEEG. I am 17 years old but will be in the adult wing. I also will be strobed until I have a seizure. The whole reason I am going in is because my seizures appearance has changed and it has been over a year since I last had one. I am just really anxious about the whole thing. I also wated advise on what to do in the hospital. I am a very active person and will hopefully be doing a half-marathon only two days before I go in. Any suggestions on things to keep my occupied for four days. (I am not a big TV person because of school I don't watch weekday television).

Thank you

Emily

Hi Emily. My daughter is your age and just completed a 3 day ambulatory EEG and had an overnight EEG at the hospital in April. All of which just about drove her batty. If you don't mind visitors, I would suggest having some friends come to see you, play some board games or just hang out. Maybe stagger their visit times to keep you busy. Take along a book or two or any school work. All boring options, I know! Good luck though!

I don't watch much TV since I like to learn so when I was in I found the science, history and other chanells. I was also able to watch movies which I did. I had fiernds stop by and we played cards and other games. Other then that it was kinda boring. They were wantingto see me in a seizure if possiable. Well I did have a few seizures but unless they were looking close they didn't see them. I did push the buttom for them and when they answered I told them I had had one and they did note it. I also had someone bring me a few books which put me to sleep . The food was great and I had the opportunity to pick out he meals I wanted. You might ask if they can bring in a few things that can help you stay active like a bike or a thingy you can walk on.

Hello Emily. There is another option. You may have the  four day VEEG done at home and it would allow you to do what you normally do at home. You can be monitored remotely carrying portable recorder which records about 9000 pages of data per day. As far as activation procedures such as strobe, deep three minutes breathing may work as well. I provide VEEG testing to patients through many neurologists who prefer home testing rather than hospital set up. There are many potential trigger factors present at your home that otherwise would be absent at the hospital. Good luck Emily.
