Epilepsy and depression?

Fri, 04/10/2015 - 22:12

I was diagnosed with epilepsey when I was 10 years old it took my family and doctors forever to figure out what my trigger was (we found out this last year that my trigger was seasonal allergies between April and October) when I was in middle and high school I struggled with anxiety and depression (I still do) my teachers would say "you don't have anxiety you need a doctor's note verifying that you have anxiety." (When in reality I don't think you do, do you?) last May it got so bad they finally put me on an antidepressant. I've always been interested in mental and spiritual health because a seizure and any other brain disorder is a malfunction and can mess with our brain, mood, and energy alignment throughout our body and mind.

hi   Depression is the most frequent psychiatric comorbidity in patients with epilepsy. By the same token, patients with depression are at higher risk of developing epilepsy than are controls. Such bidirectional relations raise the question of whether both disorders share common pathogenic mechanisms, presenting with common neurotransmitter abnormalities and involvement of the same neuroanatomic structures. In this article, some of the available data in support of this hypothesis are reviewed.Expressive Therapy For Depression
