What do I do?

Tue, 09/22/2009 - 12:21

The Background:

I've been an epileptic since birth (1966) but wasn’t diagnosed until age 5.  My diagnosis was
TLE resulting in CP with a propensity of TC events.  I’ve always been one of the lucky ones in
that medicine has always controlled things fairly well.  I’ve experienced auras, metallic smells, bursts
of light, unusual nights, focus, fatigue etc. and the occasional CP event as an adult but never an all out TC.
Admittedly I’ve been evasive in reporting and being honest because of the stigma and associated costs (i.e. insurance of all kinds, license, jobs,).   Hiding it became a skill and for the most
part served me well.

The start of a divorce in 2006 was like a stress bomb that seemed to increase activity.  I was
prescribed lamictal and it worked well.  Both activity and mood improved but the divorce in 2007 left me
uninsured by January of 2008.  I had stockpiled medicine (because of expense) but later that year I experienced some events.  Lack of insurance and an aversion to losing my license led me to lay low and increase my dosage.  By October of 2008 I was back on track and ready for action!

2009 hasn’t been as kind.  I’ve never needed help before so I was unaware of any programs available
to me.  March was a month of moderate disruption.  May through early September have
been brutal!  It got difficult enough to the point of finally seeking assistance and reporting the events.  I’ve seen my Doctor and I’m happy to say I’m
on the mend.

The dilemma is this:

The events of the past 16 months have been expensive and hurt me financially.  They’ve also hurt
my credit rating.  I’m an extremely prideful, private person but I’m in need of some help as to how to fix
things.  What I need is someone to guide me through the process of restoring things to where they were before the problems started.  I just need someone with experience in dealing with unique situations.

I’m not seeking charity (I’ve never taken a dime of help)

Thanks in advance for your input
