School Advocacy

We have used the local epilepsy society to speak to our son's teachers with regard to epilepsy and its manifestations. We've identified a need for others in the school (students and teachers) to become more aware of the issues. Starting with his immediate classmates in the New Year we have arranged with the school to begin an awareness campaign. So our son isn't centered out, we have arranged for different representatives from various organizations to come and speak to the class. Some are going to arrange to have peers who are the same age as the students to speak. Once a week for 40 minutes they will receive information from one of these organizations. Currently we have lined up The Alzheimers Association, Diabetes Association, Epilespsy Associaton, Brain Injury Association, Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Society, Tourettes Foundation, Paramedics. Hopefully we will get a few others on board. Depending on how this is received the school plans to broaden the program next year.

Great way to do this..gets them engaged more easily when it's an ongoing program and not just a one session talk. Keep us posted on how it goes!
