Calling all New Jersey Residents!

Fri, 05/30/2008 - 13:39

The Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey is working to help along on some of the many legislative and advocacy issues that we have been involved with. One of the primary projects that the EFNJ is proud to be working on is  Epilepsy Patient Protection legislation.

This proposed legislation would require pharmacies to get explicit permission from a physician before switching a patient's prescription from a name-brand to a generic formula, or from one generic to another generic formula. We feel this is truly important for many reasons. Primarily, the disparities between name brands and generics, or among generic brands themselves, are far too great and pose to great a risk for breakthrough seizures. Secondly, we feel that this gives the patient much more power in being able to understand the risks of switching formulas and allowing them to make an educated and explicit desicion on the matter.

Given the importance of this bill, we're asking for New Jersey residents' help!

We're looking to see if there people out there who have experienced problems with medication switching. We feel that if people with epilepsy can come together and tell their story, it will truly give "a voice" to the proposed legislation, allowing lawmakers to see the importance of this to the epilepsy community. If you or someone you know has experienced such an issue, feel free to contact me at advocacy@efnj.com

Also, if you're from another state, and have more questions about this issue or want to know what the status of this issue is in your state, feel free to contact us as well.

Thanks for all your help!!
