Drinking and Epilepsy...

Hi, I'm Shelitha. I'm a freshman at UTK. I've been really good so far about stopping the whole drinking thing. I use to party and drink all the time when I was younger, around junior year, but at the end of that year my seizures got worse. So in my senior year, I had a complete turn around and went months without having a drink, but now I'm at college, one that is pretty known as a party school, although it is a dry campus... right... It kinda hard to have a social life without drinking, and I know that sounds totally lame and I've never been one to be pressured into anything, but I still like to drink I've just been staying away from it because it could be potentially really dangerous. Its soooooooo tempting here though. I havent had anything to drink since May, when I had a glass of champange after my graduation, but this weekend its like all everyone wants to do is drink and I keep getting invited to all these events based around drinking. Even a student organization I am in is even having a social and what do they decide to do... have a flip cup challenge... fantastic... The first party is thursday and I really just don't know what to do, because I dont want to go and just sit there and be the only sober person, because I know from fact that that sucks. But then on the other hand, I'm scared to drink, because I havent had a drink in a long time and dont really know my limits anymore and its really bad for your epilepsy right??? But then if I don't go I feel like that would look bad and I would probably be bored this weekend... I need advice.

i know this may sound lame but you don't need to drink to have fun. you can go to the social and be the only one sober there and still have fun. think of it this way... everyone is drunk sooo no one will remember... you will... think of all the crazy stuff that you will remember. plus date rape drugs. you will be more alert and less liable to fall under that little category. just go out and go crazy. the only thing alcohol does is lowers your inhibitions to do things you normally dont do. just do them. embarrassed to dance like a fool? do it anyway... everyone else is... they're drunk. who cares... wanna do some drinking games? i play quarter bounce with coke with my friends. not same but you can still have fun. or you can stay at home and study which sounds like a lot of fun... *yawn* when life gives you lemons... smell an orange

Kelly J. Canada You really dont need to drink to have fun. I know that does sound pretty lame! I go to the bars and parties with my husband and friends and they are all drinking and having fun, but so am I, only I am drinking Soda! They all understand that I cant drink. I would rather be safe than sorry. I dont wanna have to suffer the consequences from one night of drinking.

I go out with my Boyfriend to the Bar and I drink Soda all the time. He knows I can't Drink and he doesn't pressure me into drinking. I had my first Grand Mal After a Night of Drinking so I stay away from it. You can go out with your friends and just drink soda, they will understand. You won't be bored, trust me.. you will be busy laughing at your friends and having fun with them. Just because you are not drinking does not mean you can't have the same fun they are having. You will have a good time.
