Pro-Foods? Bad Foods?

Mon, 10/22/2007 - 22:19
I was just given a list by my Neuro for which foods to avoid for Seizures, only I don't trust it because its titled "Foods to avoid for Migraines", he assures me its the same so does anyone have a legitimate site or list of foods I should avoid to prevent Seizures and what kind of foods I should be eating more of? Thank you so much my fellow Community Members -Michael-Sean

I actually got that exact list from one of my previous neurologists that I no longer see. I have never actually followed it but I do remember some of the foods on the list were things I liked like bananas, chocolate, onions, nuts... a whole list of foods to avoid plus coffee, tea, and of course alcohol. Many of the foods on here have never bothered me really or triggered any seizures. I think it's just a guide line. Not really sure where to look on the net though. It's really hard to say what foods exactly to avoid accept that if and when you have a seizure, what did you eat before hand that same day. Maybe keep a food diary until you pin point what is and isn't OK. I think it's just different chemistry for different people and finding what each of us can and can't eat. Hope this is somewhat helpful.

You are right,.. there is not one definite list. For many people, foods don't bother them at all. Others may be sensitive to similar foods that bother migraines or have caffeine in them. People who have allergies or intolerances to certain foods can be bothered by them.

It has been my experience (as one who switched diets completely from the standard American diet to a vegan diet 30+ years ago) that many foods affect the body in subtle ways and often not with immediate reactions. It isn't until you eliminate something from the diet for a long period of time that you get a sense of how it truly affects you IMO. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out my chart of alternative epilepsy treatments.
