Sex Drive

Mon, 09/13/2004 - 19:47
Does anyone else have limited sexual interest due to their seizure disorder? I have just read that temporal lobe epilepsy can cause affect the sex drive. I personally have no interest in intercourse. I now wonder if this could be why. I'd love feedback.

I'm not sure whether to say I'm lucky or cursed. Because I'm devout in my faith and unmarried, relations isn't an option. I am one of those people who have the latter symptoms. I've had the opposite reaction to topamax too. It's made me more aggressive and I think it has in that area as well. Thank goodness I can control myself. When I was taking Lamictal it wasn't as bad. The drive was still there, but definitly supressed. When I went on to topamax as a monotherapy I noticed the change. God willing when I get married it will be to someone as interested in the subject as I am.

I myself don't think that it is the location of the seizures I think that it is more the side effects of medications along with our recovery after seizures. I had a left temporal lobectomy 4 years ago March and am currently going through a divorce. My soon to be ex-spouse had one comment about what lead to our divorce and that was sex. It did hurt innitially to hear that I was not good in bed, but upon me looking at what I was dealing with for well over 10 years I was lucky to be able to keep as normal of a life that I did let alone have great sex along with my seizures experienced over that time, work and mothering my family. For me it was my re-building which I have found my brain has to do upon having a seizure that my body has to do whether it is a full seizure occuring or beginning or partial. And I myself did not have the energy let alone the drive needed for regular sexual activity.

I know that many others talk about sex and seizures which occur following sexual activity. I had a seizure occur following a day of hiking, and I don't think that sex itself is what causes seizures it is the stress which can be caused by sex. The stress of ones self when doing anything outside the norm which if not done on a regular basis can be stressful for the body to handle.

Just my thinking,

Michelle
