Hi I am in the process of withdrawing keppra and nothing to introduce. I am just curious if there is anyone on this site who has already done been through it and what sort of side effects did they have during the process? All advice welcomed and thanks in advance. Teri

gratefulmouse, I am seeing here that people are going off 250mgs at a time...why did my dr want to take me off the entire 1000 at one time..I got off 500mgs in one go..and dont feel that great....and just dropped the other 500mgs...but that was last night..my vision is clearer..but I feel depressed...and dizzy..I called my dr who is on vacation and the nurse is out till tomrow...she will call...I might take half of the 500 tonight...there are score marks on the pill...my ticks stopped though at least for now..strange how getting off the last 500 last night didnt give me more facial ticks...maybe it takes longer to feel the bad side affects..I do feel like I have the flu...yuk...its too bad how drs dont do their job...

I had just started Keppra 500 mg a day last week, and was having severe side effects and couldn't function...then...my kidneys started not working properly and I have been having really bad pains in my back. Tried to get ahold of my neurologist because I was having such a hard time, but he did not return my calls for 2 days, so I made the decision to take myself off of it....that was 3 days ago. I figured that since I had only been on it for a week at 500mg that it wouldn't hurt to stop it. I have a Hx of kidney infections and 3 kidney stones in the past year, but it got worse right after I stated the Keppra. I took 500mg then the next day took 250mg then came off, and now 3 days later I am having severe vision problems and spells of very cloudy vision and I have 20/20 vision. I am scared that maybe I did the wrong thing. I have an appt with the Neuro in 3 days, but someone please tell me if this will go away. The first 2 days off I was fine, but now I have severe vision problems and headache...I just want to point out I never had any visual changes with my seizures, and I am on no other seizure drug right now. I was just Dx and my MRI was normal but my EEG showed frontal lobe slowing, does this mean that I really have epilepsy. I had a complete thyroidectomy one year ago and been having the seizure spells ever since.....what do I need to do. I am only on a benzo 3 times a day right now, and have not been sleeping due to the kidney pain, somebody...anybody...advice???????

I am brand new to this site - are you okay?  What has happened since you posted this thread?  Did anyone on this site help you out?

I have been considering going off of Keppra but have not done so, so I cannot help you with first-person experience, but I want to know if you are okay and what has happened since your post.  Maybe I can find a way to help.
