can seizures be triggered by intercourse?

Tue, 05/10/2005 - 13:06
My partner has what seems to me to be a seizure immediately after we have intercourse. He is 28 and says that it has been happening for about four years now. He is fully concious when it happens but he has no control of his muscle functions, and has a hard time speaking while it is happening. I have tried looking on google and yahoo for any help but there doesn't seem to be any mention of a kind of seizure that could cuase this. If anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful. I am apparently much more concerned than he is, and I just needed to know if I am over reacting.

i've been running almost every morning, usually 7-14 miles, for about 3 years now. and it was only since the end of july that i have had seizure issues. my first seizure, a grand mal, was caused from collapsing and hitting my head about an hour after a run. The problem was I had developed a near fatal case of hyponatremia. i was unconscious for 16 hours after the seizure, i didn't go unconscious for about an hour. i did almost die, my blood pressure was low.. i had to be transferred to a much bigger hospital in Minneapolis and woke up the next morning, and i was released that night. it's an amazing story, i'm very lucky. i have had electroltye blood tests since then, several of them actually, and whatever electrolyte gap I wasn't filling has been filled, all of them have been normal now. i did a 4 day video eeg last week. right now with me it's just a matter of staring spells....i'll say this, my case is a big mess and it's not looking like something that they see that often from what i was told when i was hospitalized last week. i was having some brain activity they rarely see in an EEG, which worries me. i've discussed this with my neuro...i have NEVER had any staring spells, dizziness, deja vu, hallucinations or anything of the sort when I've ran. i have that stuff when i am not running instead. That is literally the only time i experience no symptoms. I do a frequent amount of weight lifting and pilates and I have experienced dizziness doing that, but never running. And if I do have any symptoms on the same day as a run, it's many hours afterward. Are you a competitive runner? I am, i'm not all that experienced with it yet, but i am going to be entering the world of triathlons or biathlons at some point. i have participated in soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and speed skating in my life. i am happy with being an endurance athlete. hey if you wanna e-mail me, hit me up @ ihateusernames01@yahoo.com. by the way, my name is Emily...take care..

I had two type of seizure, generalized grand mal and partial/local seizure. The first one knocked me out after midnight I waked up next day (i forgot whether I had sex). I was not aware of the event. In the two weeks period before that seizure, I experienced various strange things (memory loss, dizziness, deja vu, etc.). I had no external damage since I was in bed at that time. But I had some internal damage, e.g., kidney malfunction. I had several other specialists taking care of me in the hospital. I was hospitalized for a week. I was very depressed (maybe due to the medicine). I changed the med a few months after. I also worried about the correlation between sex/masturbate and seizure/panic attack. I am taking med on daily bases and I am under control now. Good luck everyone.

I am glad to see everybody in a very positive mood towards seizure - "not a big deal". It took me a long time to be in that mood. I have been out of the blue for a couple of years now.
