Can seizures cause orgasms?

Tue, 04/26/2005 - 09:02

I know there have been discussions of orgasm or sexual activity causing seizures.  But can seizures cause orgasms?

I have on numerous occasions had a spontaneous orgasm in my sleep --without any physical stimulation.  In my sleep state I almost always am aware a few seconds before what is going to happen and I try to stop it, because it is actually rather uncomfortable, causing very strong, almost painful contractions, and also resulting in my having to get up to go to the bathroom to urinate.  Very annoying.

Does anyone have this happen?  Is it possibly a seizure?

This has never happened to me but my neuro had told me that he has a patient who this has happened to - so no, you're not alone.

6 months ago I had my first seizure (grand mal) after sex induced sleep (Im male in case that wasnt a clue). Then nothing for 6 months, though I had regular sex, with and without sleep afterwards. Last week I had a nocturnal seizure (grand mal), hadnt had sex in days. I had evidence of a fresh orgasm but no memory of one. Im not sure if the seizure caused the orgasm or if the orgasm caused the seizure. Ive been reading around and it seems to be unheard of in men. anyone have info?

This may sound strange, but for all intents and purposes... orgasms ARE seizures. It's a temporary abnormal electro-physiologic event that results in an altered state of consciousness. The fact that it is generally desirable and biologically integral to reproduction is irrelevant. It's still a seizure, albeit a very well-ordered seizure. That's to be expected, since it has been evolving along the same lines for several million years at least.
