Is this a normal reaction to the EEG strobe light?????

Mon, 05/07/2007 - 23:21
I had a sleep deprived EEG today, as my doctor suspects I may have epilepsy. During the part where they have you close your eyes and they stick a strobe light in your face, blinking it at different frequencies, my face began to twitch uncontrollably all over and my eyelids fluttered. My head felt tingly all over, too. I didn't lose consciousness, but it was obviously extremely scary. This was unlike my usual episodes/seizures, with the exception of the head tingling. Is this a normal response to the strobe light?

Hey, I'm sure that scared the heck out of you : ( Each person can have a slightly different reaction the strobe light. It's probably normal. Remember the reason they are doing it is to induce a seizure. In your everyday experiences you probably don't have to stare at storbe lights all day, therefore it isn't very surprising that your reaction to the light was diffent.

Hey, the stobe light did not cause me to have a seizure during my video eeg. hyperventilation and sleep deprivation caused mine. I have simple partial and complex partial seuizures coming from my temporal lobe. i go sometime to have depth electrodes put in to see if they come from one side or bilateral. the regular video eeg did not really tell my neurologist. that is what he recommended me to do.

PANO6, WHAT ARE DEPTH ELECTRODES? ARE THOSE THE TYPE THAT INVOLVE A NEEDLE INSERTED IN BOTH SIDES OF THE FACE SO THAT THE TESTS CAN SHOW WHAT IS HAPPENING DEEPER INSIDE THE BRAIN? MY DOC HAD TOLD ME HE WAS GOING TO DO 2 OTHER TYPES OF TESTS, PLUS THE EEG, BUT HE ONLY INSENTED THE NEEDLES. I WONDERED IF THERE WAS SOMETHING ELSE HE COULD HAVE DONE? THIS IS GETTING REAL OLD.......BEEN CHECKING FOR 10 YEARS THAT I KNOW OF. COULD HAVE BEEN LONGER,I HAVE NO MEMORY OF THOSE DAYS. THANKS, ROCKNROLL
