Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and Seizures

Sat, 06/02/2007 - 09:12
Hi All I experienced another seizure on the wsy to an job interview the other day, whereby I lost consciousness for about 5 minutes and obviously this is not very good when I am inteviewing. I was late for the interview and now am stressing out again which is not good. I have had EEG's and MRI's and thankfully all normal. Have any of you experienced / heard about any link between seizures (black outs) and Hypoglycemia? I have never had a blood test? Is this something that you have had done/ Thanks

I have seizures. When the emt

I have seizures. When the emt's test my sugar AFTER a seizure, its always below 50 and they make me eat this nasty pasty liquid to bring it back up instantly. But I don't get any warning prior to going into a convulsion and I am labeled as a "Convulsive Status Epilepticus." She I started having seizures at 11 they were just the petit mal non convulsive. Then 6 months later (untreated until first convulsion) was the first convulsion. Since then I have had 2 children. 2 years ago they labeled me CSE. So as the years progressed so did my seizures. In my early years they lasted only 2-3min. Now they don't stop without multiple injections of lorazapam or the like. I don't know what causes my sugar to drop, but I know that muscles need sugar as does the brain. So when having a seizure, maybe I deplete the levels by excessive use of all muscles (since during a convulsive seizure I clench every single muscle in my body). I'm not sure. I've no medical proof. But its just a theory of mine.

Debbie The doctors usually check that stuff. Like low sodium, blood sugar and any other deficiencies that will cause it. Like magnesium, potassium, calcium things like that I hope you get fully checked out. And hope you do find a job. Also do deep breathing that can help stop them too. My boyfriend had a seizure last week because of his sugar being dangerously low. He's not diabetic, however when he has a seizure I usually call 911 and the paramedics check his sugar level. I was told that if it's low or high, seizure activity isn't uncommon!
