Seizure after surgery..............

Thu, 10/19/2006 - 08:32
Good morning, I had my surgery on August 28, 2006. Basically almost 2 months ago. Last night, I had my first seizure since the operation. I was wondering how many of you all experienced this? Also, does this mean that my seizures are back and that the operation wasn't a success? Or did I have this because my brain is still healing? To say I'm upset about this seizure is putting it mildly!!!! Anyway, hope to hear from you soon. Keri

Hi sweetie, I've had 4 simple partials since my surgery (7 mo's ago), but I haven't had any sz activity in 2+ months. I just saw my epi a couple of days ago, and he feels confident in bringing my phenobarb down to a lower level now. I am a bit nervous about it, as several failed attempts is what made me go for surgery...but I am also very hopeful! What kind of seizure did you have last night? Were you aware throughout, or was it less intense than usual? Be sure to describe the event to your doctor. I hope that everything goes well. (((HUGS))) to you!! Take care Heather :)

Hi Heather, It was a tonic-clonic. I didn't even know I had it until the next morning. Apparently, I was asleep while I had the seizure and it didn't even wake me up. My husband told me about it the next morning before he went off to work. He said it lasted about 1 1/2 minutes. Which is a long time for me. I bet you are a little nervous in decreasing your meds. Right now, I would be telling my epi "no way!!!!" I'll be praying for you. Keri "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. Keri, I'm sorry that you had a secondarily-generalized seizure :( You are in the thick of healing, which is a difficult period. I pray that things improve for you! (((hugs))) I've gone 3 nights on my lower dose of phenobarb, with no ill effects *knock on wood*. Hopefully, things will continue to go well, and I'll get off this med already! Heather :)
