Can seizures cause orgasms?

Tue, 04/26/2005 - 09:02

I know there have been discussions of orgasm or sexual activity causing seizures.  But can seizures cause orgasms?

I have on numerous occasions had a spontaneous orgasm in my sleep --without any physical stimulation.  In my sleep state I almost always am aware a few seconds before what is going to happen and I try to stop it, because it is actually rather uncomfortable, causing very strong, almost painful contractions, and also resulting in my having to get up to go to the bathroom to urinate.  Very annoying.

Does anyone have this happen?  Is it possibly a seizure?

hi poochini, I looked this up for you http://www.emedicine.com/neuro/topic342.htm Seizures from the superior portion of the posterior central gyrus can result in genital sensations, while sexual auras arise more from the limbic or temporal regions. Ictal orgasms have been reported, although rarely, in association with seizures arising from various cerebral locations. Other autonomic symptoms - Rarely perspiration, lacrimation, ictal enuresis, or flushing Postictal neurological deficits can occur after an SPS as a negative manifestation of the function affected by the seizure (eg, Todd paralysis). hope this helps angel

What about the opposite. My seizures returned with a vengence after I stopped taking triliptal and since then I have had orgasm problems. The desire is there and I then I loose it. I am a 39 y/o female and this has crushed me in the sex department. Up until 6 weeks ago I had no problem getting wet and reaching great orgasms and now nothing. I have front lobal seizures that begain 3 years ago. I can go months with out a seizure then I have back to back grand mals. I am back on triliptal and clonazepam. I am so far seizure free but still have this problem. Have you heard of anything like this?

I figured erotic dreams (that I can never remember) were to blame (or thank) for my nightime orgasms! But a seizure PRECIPITATING the nightime convulsions makes MUCH more sense to me. I'm a realist...not a dreamer! :) Every orgasm causes a seizure in me. Partial...but not yet sure where. I have only ever had 1 seizure that was NOT orgasm related, AND was not an Absence seizure...and it, too, was preceded by STRONG emotion. (Fear) Other than that, all of them are absence seizures...which I have READ do not have lasting effects. But I, being a 31 year old with a memory and cognitive function declining faster than my 73 year old fathers, tend to believe that is a misconception. Since my orgasms bring on partial seizures...do you think I should try to AVOID them? (wow..that would be tough!) Could THEY be causing damage...and thus, my mental impairment????
