Post Partum Seizures

After I had my first child one year ago Aug. 11th. I was doing good for about a month. And, then a month later I would start to get some seizures every once in a while. They have always been controlled by my meds. But when I do have them they are always when I wake up, all of a sudden, from a deep sleep. Or, when I didn't get enough sleep. Did anyone else have more seizures than normal after they had their baby?

Wow. Noone has had a seizure case quite like mine yet. Until now. Mine started with a pregnancy, which triggered a cyst in my left temporal lobe that seems to love me when i'm ovulating. Thats when the seizures happen. Every month for about 4 or 5 days I have seizures during sleep and waking hours and some during the day, too. I have no idea how the cyst is related to my hormones, it likes to 'turn on' when my hormone flow goes up, every month somehow. It just sits in some tissue behind my ear, not even on the brain. Yet, it causes all sorts of seizures for me that I hate. Most occur during sleep time. When I am in almost awake hours and trying to catch the last half hour in the bed, they happen. And when i'm almost snoring, my boyfriend says they happen too. All hormone sh**. And it all started 11 years ago with my first pregnancy. I was 20 when I had my first seizure. I woke up in the hospital and the doc said 'you're pregnant' and 'you had a seizure.' I said, "Whats a seizure?" I had to have an abortion, nonetheless, and that was tormenting as well. But this is crazy. I'm planning a surgery for this Oct./Nov. We'll get it all finalized this week. I hope you feel better. Keep in touch. Kelly.....:)

Thank you for your reply. I have a cyst too. I never thought that it might have something to do with my seizure. What kind of surgery are you going to have? Brain surgery? or removing the cyst? I am going to have to mention something to my neurologist. Thank you so much for that insight. :)

Hi! I had never had a seizure until almost seven years ago. It was six weeks after my third child was born, and I woke up in the middle of the night to find paramedics staring at me. I didn't remember the seizure at all. My husband woke up and called 911. After doing tests they told me I had epilepsy, but, to be honest, I didn't really believe them because I didn't feel any different, and I hadn't remembered the seizure anyway. I took meds for one year and didn't have another seizure. My doctor thought that I had only had the seizure because I was exhausted after having the baby, so I stopped taking meds. I didn't have another seizure until Jan. 2005. This one didn't seem to be related to anything, but I still didn't take meds. Then last June I was four months pregnant and had several seizures. They only happen at night when I am very relaxed, so I usually don't remember them. I decided to get back on meds, and I have taken them to this day. Luckily, I haven't had another seizure since starting the meds. Anyway, the seizures do seem to happen when I am exhausted or when I don't get a good night of sleep for whatever reason. I haven't had enough seizures, and I have irregular periods, so I can't say if my seizures occur more with hormonal fluctuations. I do think that the exhaustion that comes with being a new mom does make me more likely to have seizures, but with my last child I responded well to the meds. Let me know if you need more info.
