Lamictal: can it make things worse before it makes things better?

Sun, 07/02/2006 - 13:52
My dd has been on Lamictal since April and titrating upwards slowly. We have typically seen 1 seizure every 1 or 2 weeks over the past few months. Over the last several days, she has been experienceing much more frequent (averaging 1 or 2 a day) which is unusual for her. The other night she had 5 in a 10 hour period. Does anyone have experience with this and Lamictal? I am starting to lose hope that Lamictal will work for us but I have heard that soem AEDs can make seizure frequency increase before things settle down. I will call the neuro tomorrow, but in the meantime, thought I would see if you had any advice or insight? Thanks.

jake is currently on 25mg 2x a day and we will increase to 32 mg next week then we will discuss further increases. This is his 13 week. The neuro said we might want to do another EEG (which was tourture) b/c the staff at the hospital were rude and he is very scared to do the whole thing over again. (I promised that I would'nt take him back ot that hospital for the EEG, but his drs. are there so it's kind of hard. Anyway I am also taking him for a sleep study b/c he might have sleep apnea and maybe he is getting them more often b/c he is not getting a full night's sleep. (Hopefully this is it b/c I don't want to try more medicine. He is on trileptal as well and he can start to decrease that when he is seizure free for 3 months (which doesn't seem to be happening). How old is your child? My son has partial complex seizures where he gets a scared look on his face and swallows a lot. What happens to your child?

now I'm getting scared my daughter is starting on lamictal nextweek.she will be tappering off trileptal and starting on lamictal.the trileptal has her fairly controlled but the neuro says that lamictal can help with memory.Iwonder now if its a good idea to switch.

well, I'm not sure if it is the lamictal that are causing them or other things like the sleep apnea. what are her experiences with memory. Does anyone else have memory loss. My son doesn't remember his events, but I really don't care if he does in fact I like it.
