Lamictal and birth control pills

Mon, 03/20/2006 - 22:38
I was just wondering if anyone was on brith control as well as Lamictal. My neurologist said that there is no interaction, but I came across 2 studies on the interaction that stated that it decreased Lamictal concentration by almost half. I'm not sure if I should be worried to start the birth control.

Hi Anamaria, I'm taking Lamictal as well. Love it! From Spring 2003 to August of last year I was also on birth control called Ovral. After going off the pill, I was pregnant 2 months later. I don't recall any bad reactions or problems with the combination. I take 600mg a day. I have had a blessed pregnancy (no morning sickness or swelling!) Of course, everyone is different. I'm due to give birth on June 14th, baby and I are healthy! When you choose to start a family you will be directed to start taking Folic Acid (very important). I take 5mg a day along with my prenatal vitamins & Omega 3.

I was on Lamictal and the pill. My birth control was called Ovral. I had no bad reactions to the combo. I think it might have to do with the birth control you choose. My "cycles" were on the dot each month. Of course, everyone is different. Within 2 months of going off the pill it was confirmed that I was pregnant! Baby and I are healthy and I'm due to give birth June 14th.
