Smoking cigarettes and seizures....

Sat, 07/30/2005 - 00:07
I've been a smoker for about 13 years or so now. I'm not a heavy smoker by any means, and I go through a pack every 3-4 days. I just wanted to find out from "other smokers" on this site or any non-smokers who even may know....Does smoking affect epilepsy at all?

I used IDIOT for two reason, anyone with epilepsy who smokes is a foolish person and I was angry. They are also selfish. (i used selfish for you to write another book on one word) I also pointed out SAFETY. SAFETY as in if the one who smokes and has a seizure might catch themselves on fire along with others. Let's also add cancer. The only reason I added that is due to reports on people who have never smoked and have died of lung cancer. Now wether smokers casued that I don't know, but more people are being reported of having lung cancer and the question is could that be due to second hand smoke. You mentioned name calling should never be started, I did not aim IDIOT at one person. I aimed it at any epileptic. Name calling is not ne to me. That's right, I know it first hand. A couple of guys tagged me as PUMPKIN BRAIN. I found that out by way of another friend, he wanted to go kick their butts. I was 16, I told him if I fight them I will have to fight dumbbutt Americans just like them. Don't forget I started my reply with ANYONE. If I hurt anyone with epilepsy by calling them an IDIOT, could it be I am RIGHT. They might decide they don't want to burn themselves or other to death. Am I wrong to think of others SAFETY? I ahve been an epileptic for 34 years NaBox

Hi Nabox, No I'm not a

Hi Nabox, No I'm not a moderator, but I do disagree with your opinion of epilepsy being affected by nicotine (as does my epileptologist). If anything it makes coping easier as it wakes you up (nicotine is a stimulant) since you are filled with depressants to fight your epilepsy. Also, having E makes many things impossible...driving a car, riding a bike, swimming in deep water, playing sports with a group of people (as you might seize) and smoking relieves that state of mind! I had stopped smoking until after my car accident 2 years ago when I started again, then gave up last fall as I didn't want to be smoking when having surgery. I don't plan on smoking regularly again, but once in a blue moon I'll have a cigar. Calling people who have the odd glass of wine or who smoke in their own homes 'idiots' isn't accurate. In fact it is impolite. In Canada, those uncontrolled can smoke grass !! ~sol
