Lamictal and birth control pills

Mon, 03/20/2006 - 22:38
I was just wondering if anyone was on brith control as well as Lamictal. My neurologist said that there is no interaction, but I came across 2 studies on the interaction that stated that it decreased Lamictal concentration by almost half. I'm not sure if I should be worried to start the birth control.

Thank you. That is all I needed to here to make me stop considering the birth control pill. I also was going to start Yasmin as well. Sorry about your daughter having a breakthrough seizure. I've also been seizure free for 2 years and I don't want to jeopardize it. I appreciate all responses.

Diane works fine for me! I have had epilepsy for 8 years now, and have used Lamictal (sometimes combined with others) the whole time. I have also used Diane as birth control and have had no problems (blood tests been fine). About 4 months ago I stopped using Diane to check if Diane had any influence on by fits (still have some small fits when sleeping). Have not noticed any difference. Then started to use a new type called Cerazette. Am a bit worried if these pills are as safe as Diane.. With cerazette you dont get the period any more, and thereby have no "checks".. Does anybody have any experience with Lamictal and cerazette ?

Hi, I have been on lamictal for a little over 2 years and i just started taking ortho tri cyclin low about 10-11 months ago. i haven't had any problems with interactions on either side - i really like lamictal - i have been seizure free since i started taking it (400 mg a day) you should check with both doctors - everyones body reacts differently - i hope this helps a little. i know i was very nervous when i started taking the birth control at first .
