Is it safe to go to the beach when you are anti-seizure meds?

Fri, 08/12/2005 - 13:09

Alot of you know Hubby is on two different meds right now (Dilantin and Lamictal) and in the middle of going off Dilantin and going onto Lamictal. He wants to go to the shore and spend time alone with me since our 4 kids are away. Im too afraid that the sunshine adn all the meds he is on will make him sick. Can this happen?

Hi I'm on Lamictal and Neurontin and the sun doesn't effect me. My aunt is on Dilantin and it doesn't effect her either.  I would definently keep an eye on him when he's swimming though.  They use to make me wear a life vest for extra safty. I hope you enjoy your trip.

Hello,

If I were you, I would just let him go. Just make sure you are always with him. I grew up with people telling me what not to do and going to the beach was one of it. I hated to be limited and I'm sure your husband feels the same. Just bring an umbrella and alot of sunscreen for him. I live right on a beach and have never had any problems except sunburns.

Goodluck and have fun.

I'm on tegretol, very fair comlected and use to live 20 min. from the beach in Calif.  It was one of the things that I miss the most, since I moved back to Texas.  I would wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.  The hat and sunglasses really helped.  I am on other meds too.  Since I have been back to tx., I really have to watch the sun.  But as long as I am careful, I am fine.  In fact, If I know I am going to be out in the sun alot, I am not embarressed to take umbrella with me.  I seem to do okay with the heat, its the sun that messes with me.  The sound of the ocean really relaxes me.  To be able to go the coast right now would be the best.

I  wouldn't keep him from something that he really wants to do.  But just be careful.
